Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi has a thigh injury, which is why he is not on the bench for Ukraine’s UEFA EURO 2020 quarter-final against England.

There had been some doubts as to why he was in the stands, as while he had some fitness issues in recent games, he was still expected to make a substitute appearance.

He was seemingly not hurt in yesterday’s training session, but Malinovskyi’s wife posted on her Instagram Stories that the player has a minor thigh injury, but enough to rule him out of the game at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Malinovskyi had been one of the most eagerly-awaited players in the Ukraine squad after his impressive Atalanta performances.

During the 2020-21 season, he scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists in 43 competitive games for La Dea.

The 28-year-old provided an assist in the opening Ukraine match of EURO 2020, a 3-2 defeat to the Netherlands, but was only able to play 45 minutes and 59 minutes in the most recent matches.
