Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has become a minority shareholder at Como and explained his plans for the club at a press conference with club CEO Dennis Wise.

The former France striker has acquired a minority stake in Como, the Serie B side that signed Cesc Fabregas this summer.

“I know the Italians’ passion for football and I didn’t hesitate when I had this opportunity to begin a new chapter of my life,” he said at a press conference today.

“Cesc Fabregas and Gianluca Zambrotta, who was my teammate at Barcelona, spoke to me highly of this city.”

Henry specified that he had discussed Como with Zambrotta when they were at Barcelona.

“Cesc will be among the protagonists and will give a significant contribution, whether he starts or not,” he continued.

“One of the targets is to invest in the community of Como and create a synergy with local people through initiatives that can be useful to create employment,” Henry continued.

“Como has a nice history, it is known for the beauty of the city and the lake but hopefully, it will soon be known for football.”

Fabregas has been called up for tonight’s match against Brescia, which Henry will watch from the stands of the Stadio Sinigaglia.

“I am Martinez’s assistant with Belgium and I am a football pundit in France, but I’ll be here when I can, but nowadays there are many ways to communicate,” the ex-Arsenal striker said.

The 1998 France World Cup winner also spoke about his brief spell at Juventus.

“I’ve loved the club and I would have stayed if it wasn’t for one person. I have great respect for Italian football, playing here I understood the players’ mentality. I am of the same generation as champions such as Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso.”

Henry spent six months at Juventus under Carlo Ancelotti before joining Arsenal in the summer of 1999. Ex-Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise is Como’s CEO and shared his view on the club’s future.

“We have many things in mind, we want to go to Serie A relatively quickly and create a solid youth sector to be competitive like Milan, Inter, Atalanta and other clubs. The fact that Henry and Fabregas have joined the project explains reflects how serious we are. about it.”
