Milan are waiting for Newcastle United to come forward with an improved offer for Malick Thiaw as negotiations continue.

The Premier League side have been keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old German centre back for a number of weeks now and have drawn up a €30m offer, keen to add the player to Eddie Howe’s squad ahead of next season.

Milan rejected Newcastle’s initial offer, wanting a fee closer to €40m. The club have already identified RB Salzburg’s Strahinja Pavlovic as their primary option to bolster the backline this summer and are confident of beating Atletico Madrid to a deal.

Page seven of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Milan are now waiting for Newcastle to submit their second offer for Thiaw, only willing to progress in talks should it reach €40m or close to. They are also open to keeping the 22-year-old and have planned around that.

Last season, the German defender saw over 2100 minutes of action across 30 appearances for the Rossoneri, providing one assist.
