Thiago Motta sees a ‘psychological’ reason behind Spezia home defeats to Milan and Juventus. ‘Once we score, we sit back deeper.’

Just like against Juventus midweek, Spezia had scored and then failed to make it stick, eventually losing 3-2 then and 2-1 this afternoon.

“It was a psychological issue and we’re not the only team that does this,” the coach told DAZN.

“We scored by attacking and going forward, so it’s not right that once we score, we then sit back deeper and stop doing what got us the goal in the first place.

“We have to improve in certain attitudes that caused us to do that. It’s important to be a more consistent side. Results help to grow, but we must not change our philosophy if we aren’t chasing the game.

“Defending isn’t enough if we want to get a result, we need ideas too. It was a better performance against Milan than with Juventus, but we ought to make more of our transitions and scoring opportunities.”
