Thiago Motta insists Roma’s win over Lazio didn’t affect his Bologna side who “deserved to win” against Frosinone.

Bologna were held to a 0-0 draw by Frosinone at the Stadio Stirpe on Sunday, wasting a chance to temporarily overtake Juventus in the Serie A table. The Old Lady host Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium tonight.

Bologna’s draw also means Roma are now three points below the Rossoblu thanks to their win over Lazio on Saturday.

During a post-match press conference, Motta said that Roma’s result did not influence his team against Frosinone.

“Let’s start from the principle that we are talking about Roma,” said Motta, as quoted by TMW.

“Nobody would have imagined this situation at the beginning of the season. We put in a positive performance today, and we deserved to win, but this is football. The lads had an exceptional attitude, we didn’t suffer much and we did anything we could to win this game. We don’t even look at the table because many games are remaining.”

A journalist noted that the gap between Bologna and Frosinone in the table did not emerge in today’s meeting but the ex-Italy international didn’t agree.

“I think we deserved to win, not Frosinone,” he argued.

“The draw was unfair, I respect your opinion, but I disagree.”

Bologna have the 15th-highest wage bill in Serie A, while Roma are third below Inter and Juventus.

Bologna have earned 58 points in 31 matches and their next Serie A game is against Monza at the Stadio Dall’Ara on April 13.
