Juventus coach Thiago Motta has explained that Federico Chiesa is still a Juventus player, but hinted that the situation could still change, and has also opened up on Dusan Vlahovic’s ‘responsibilities’ heading into the 2024-25 Serie A season.

The Bianconeri head coach spoke to reporters from La Gazzetta dello Sport at Continassa on Thursday.

Chiesa has been left in limbo this summer, as he is now into the final 12 months of his contract with Juventus. Without plans for a renewal, Juventus would prefer to cash in on the Italy international, rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

There had been talks of a potential switch to Roma, but the Giallorossi have now effectively secured a deal with Juve for Matias Soule instead, at a cost of around €30m.

What Thiago Motta said about Chiesa and Vlahovic

When asked about Chiesa’s situation on Thursday, Thiago Motta responded: “Federico is still part of Juventus at the moment, then we’ll see,” hinting that an exit is still on the cards this window.

Thiago Motta was also asked for an update on talisman Dusan Vlahovic and the pressure he may feel as Juve’s leading striker.

“Vlahovic has no pressure, rather a great responsibility,” the coach said.

“Dusan’s work cannot be measured just by looking at the goals. In football, there are lots of things you have to do, and he knows how to do them very well. He is an important player, but as I said from the start, a great talent always needs his team.”
