Bologna coach Thiago Motta was in no mood for diplomacy after a 2-1 friendly win over Utrecht. ‘At this moment we cannot compete in Serie A and Musa Barrow needs to prove himself elsewhere.’
The Rossoblu emerged victorious in the pre-season test thanks to goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Lorenzo De Silvestri.
However, the tactician was open with his concerns in an interview with Radio Nettuno Bologna Uno after the match.
“At this moment, we cannot compete in Serie A. We are just not in a position to be competitive,” said the Italo-Brazilian.
“We cannot betray the love shown by our fans. We are all fully aware that in order to improve, we must invest. Everyone can see we need two attacking wingers, as Riccardo Orsolini is injured and we don’t know when he will be available.
“Our objective is to compete with every team in Serie A, but right now we do not have the quality to do that. This team needs investment.”
Thiago Motta hit even harder when asked about the future of Barrow, who has been linked with Turkish side Fenerbahce.
“He has great potential, but has been at Bologna for many years. I feel maybe he needs to prove himself elsewhere.”
