Inter should still be considered as title contenders despite their terrible start to the campaign, says Thiago Motta.

The Nerazzurri are eight points behind joint leaders Juventus and Udinese after collecting four defeats from their first six games.

The midfielder, though, is adamant that the Nerazzurri are strong enough and talented enough to get back on track.

"It's too early to write off our chances of winning the Scudetto," Thiago Motta told Mediaset Premium after the 1-0 win at Lille in the Champions League last night.

"There have been plenty of teams in the past that have started badly and then managed to climb back up, so let's get another win against Chievo and start putting together a run.

"The other teams ahead of us will probably have their own rough patches too.

"It's hard to judge from the outside what has happened to Inter in this period, but with hard work and Claudio Ranieri's ideas we can bounce back in the League too.

"We'll soon straighten the ship by playing as we did today."

Some pundits have already written Inter off, claiming that they are a side that peaked with their treble success in 2010.

"Maybe you're forgetting that we almost got knocked out of the Champions League that year, in Kiev in the group stage, and then we won everything," the Brazilian-born Italian international added.

"That's the way football is – anything can happen and we want it to happen again."
