Thiago Motta’s future is hanging in the balance ahead of Spezia’s match against Genoa tomorrow.

The Ligurian side currently sit 17th in the Serie A table, three points ahead of relegation candidates Cagliari, and the Italian-Brazilian’s job as head coach is again at risk.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Thiago Motta needs to guide Spezia to an away win over Genoa tomorrow evening if he wants to remain head coach, with the Ligurian club ready to dismiss him following the poor first half of the season.

Spezia are interested in replacing the Italian-Brazilian with Rolando Maran, but there is an issue. The Italian coach has been out of action since his dismissal from the Rossoblu in December 2020, but he is still contracted to the club.

Maran’s contract would need to be terminated with Genoa before he could accept the move to Spezia, meaning the Rossoblu will be the ones who make the difference in the situation, one way or another.
