Chelsea fans have been mocked on social media after suggesting Edouard Mendy should’ve beaten Gianluigi Donnarumma to the Yashin Trophy after the goalkeeper’s howlers.

Mendy made two errors this afternoon that proved decisive in Chelsea’s 3-2 defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League.

The setbacks provided an opportunity for some social media users to hit back at those who only a few days ago had loudly argued Mendy was the superior shot-stopper to Italy’s UEFA EURO 2020 victor Donnarumma.

The former Milan and current Paris Saint-Germain ‘keeper received the award as Best Goalkeeper of the Year from France Football, as part of the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris.

This wasn’t just pure insults and clown emojis, because there were also a few Chelsea fans who realised the error of their ways and confessed it had been an error to criticise the decision awarding the Yashin Trophy to Italian prodigy Donnarumma.

  1. None of them watched Serie A then because I remember screaming at him quite a few times. Not that I care who is regarded as better but they are both capable of howlers.

  2. The more concerning part for Italy fans is the mistake made by Jorginho that helped contribute to a West Ham goal. Last week he gifted one to ManU. He’s been horrible the last few months.

Might have to be Lorenzo Pellegrini in the Playoffs if Jorginho can’t sort himself out.
