Milan star Theo Hernandez insists that he and Rafael Leao ‘didn’t need’ a cooling break as they had been introduced from the bench only a few minutes earlier: ‘People say a lot of untrue things.’

Theo and Leao started on the bench on Saturday in an away Serie A game against Lazio.

They were introduced in the second half, with the Rossoneri down 2-1. The Portuguese winger scored the equaliser, and a few minutes later, he and Theo sparked controversy by failing to join the team for a cooling break

The pair remained on the opposite side of the pitch while Fonseca was giving tactical instructions to the rest of the team on the touchline.

Theo Hernandez explains why he and Leao didn’t join Milan team and Fonseca for cooling break

After the match, Theo explained why he and Leao had not joined their teammates.

“We’d be on for two minutes; we didn’t need the cooling break,” he told Milan TV.

“We were ready to help the team and try to win this game. It’s nothing against the team or the coach. We’re together. Now, what we need to do is work together to win other games.

“People talk; they say a lot of untrue things. Rafa and I are always with the team and ready to help. That’s the most important thing.”

Fans and media had criticised Theo and Leao for their performances and attitude in Milan’s loss to Parma on Matchday 2.

After last night’s game against Lazio, the Rossoneri boss Fonseca insisted that there were “no problems” with Theo and Leao.
