Theo Hernandez highlighted his happiness at Milan and how easy it was to decide to extend his contract with the club.

The 24-year-old French left back officially renewed his contract with the Rossoneri to 2026, keeping him in the Lombardy capital for another four and a half years, at least. He is a core part of Stefano Pioli’s squad this season and one of their most exciting players.

Speaking to Milan’s Tim Tok earlier today, Hernandez first discussed his decision to sign the contract renewal with Milan.

“I am very happy. From the first day I arrived here I’ve had a great time with the coach, the team, Maldini and everyone. That’s why I renewed my contract. Now we have to continue like this and do things well.

“It’s true that many teams wanted me, but I only thought about Milan and about staying here. I’m here with the fans. I’m really happy here, with friends and teammates, girlfriend and the baby on the way. I’m really happy.”

He commented on what he said to Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara before signing the deal.

“We joked around a bit. But he already told me what he wanted to tell me on his way here. I’ve known what he told me since day one.”

The 24-year-old Frenchman looked ahead to his future.

“I’m still young, I have to grow day by day. I don’t have to say if I’m better than others, the people have to say that.

“Pioli has improved me in everything, both as a person and in the game. From the first day I arrived he told me that I must do what I know and now I’m doing it. The people, my family and my teammates help me.”

He touched on his various qualities and what he enjoys about the game.

“I like attacking more than defending. My idea, when I get the ball, is to go for the goal. Then if someone is there I pass it on. Our left wing is devastating. Rafa is an incredible player, he’s fast and technical, but he’s young and he still has to grow.”

Finally, Hernandez spoke about how it felt to wear the captain’s armband against Venezia last month.

“The coach told me about it, but I thought it was a joke. It was true, I hope to keep it for longer.”

The 24-year-old Hernandez has scored four goals and provided eight assists in 27 appearances across all competitions this season.
