The Italian newspapers were not impressed with the work of Theo Hernandez in Milan’s Europa League win over Slavia Praha, drawing attention to his mistakes and poor performance.

The 26-year-old French full back did not look his usual best in the Rossoneri’s Europa League Round of 16 first leg against Slavia Praha on Thursday evening, failing to contribute much of note as his side picked up a barely sufficient 4-2 win over their Czech opponents.

Theo Hernandez was neither impressive offensively nor defensively, having an evening to forget at San Siro as Stefano Pioli’s side struggled to close out their victory over a 10-man Slavia Praha, a match that didn’t fill supporters with too much hope.

La Gazzetta dello Sport were unimpressed with Theo Hernandez’s work, suggesting that he failed to be as decisive as usual, writing: “It’s not nice to run an F1 race in third gear. He didn’t accelerate, he didn’t hurt and he made mistakes twice.”

Corriere dello Sport echoed these sentiments and drew attention to his mistake for Slavia Praha’s second goal, saying: “He showed himself less in the offensive phase, slightly late in closing down Schranz.”

Tuttosport didn’t break ranks regarding the Frenchman’s reviews, feeling the same as their counterparts, commenting: “On an evening where he didn’t shine offensively, he was also very careless in marking Schranz on the latter’s goal.”

Theo Hernandez ratings in the Italian newspapers
