Both Roberto De Zerbi and Thiago Motta have been linked with the Barcelona job for 2024-25 as Xavi has announced he’ll leave the Blaugrana at the end of the season.
Two of the most exciting Italian coaches could leave their current clubs in the summer as both De Zerbi and Motta have been linked with a move to Barcelona at the end of the current campaign.
De Zerbi, currently in charge of Premier League side Brighton, has also emerged as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, given that the German tactician will also leave his club in June.
De Zerbi was appointed by Brighton in September 2022 and his contract expires in June 2026.
On the other hand, Motta’s Bologna contract runs out in June 2024, so it will be easier, on paper, to secure his signature in the summer.
Milan are also said to be monitoring the former midfielder, who was born in Brazil in 1982 but picked Italy’s national team as a footballer, making 30 appearances with the Azzurri.
A former Barcelona midfielder, Motta scored 10 goals in 147 appearances as a footballer with the La Liga giants.
Speaking about the Catalans’ potential interest on Saturday, after a 2-2 draw against Milan, Motta said: “When there is news to report, I will tell you, but there’s none today.”
