While Juventus fans complain that Joao Cancelo was sold to Manchester City too soon, the reasons behind his departure after just one season are revealed.

The Portugal international right-back was purchased from Valencia in 2018 for €40m and sold a year later for €65m, making a very healthy profit on that investment.

He has since gone from strength to strength at Manchester City, being one of the most impressive players in this weekend’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Liverpool.

Cancelo’s performance against Liverpool sparks debate among Juve fans

This has prompted Juve fans on social media to debate their own difficulties with the right-back role since Cancelo’s departure, wondering if coach Max Allegri was to blame.

However, reports from Juventus-focused journalists Max Nerozzi and Fabiana Della Valle insist it was a club-wide evaluation of Cancelo that prompted the decision to sell.

In fact, they went so far as to suggest the Portuguese right-back was tactically naïve, continued to make the same defensive errors and was showing no signs of improvement.

Another report maintains Cancelo had already asked agent Jorge Mendes to find him a new club before Juve decided to fire Allegri.

  1. Football Italia would have nothing to report on if not for Juve. Where are stories about other teams? You can tell they’re all Inter fans.

  2. PhD Max and the doctorate scholars in Catenaccio got the mighty world beating Danilo lol. Moggi would never have done such a move.

  3. This is another Juve mess up situation. They bought him for $40m and sold him for $31.4m plus Danilo. If you believe Danilo is worth $8.6m, then Juve gave him up for free. If you believe Danilo is worth what Juve claimed it to be (hyperinflated price of 34.6m) then you believe that they made profit. In my opinion, Man City wanted to balance books and Juve did them the favor by offloading a player they don’t need and get one they need.

  4. Stop the hate with Danilo. He is a Brazilian international and for a Brazilian he can never beat his man.😅 Pair him with Sandro and you have two players who put Cafu to shame.😅
