The numbers behind Juve’s crisis: Allegri trails Pirlo and Sarri

Max Allegri has picked up five points less than Andrea Pirlo after 10 Serie A games, as Juventus’ struggles continued with a 2-1 loss to Sassuolo on Wednesday.

Juventus suffered their first defeat in 10 games across all competitions when Maxime Lopez scored the winner for the Neroverdi in stoppages on Wednesday night.

Allegri explains Juventus defeat: ‘Never again’

The poor start to the new campaign continues to haunt Allegri, even if the Old Lady seemed to have recovered with a series of positive results in Europe and domestically.

The defeat to Alessio Dionisi’s men was the Bianconeri’s third in Serie A this term, while three of the other seven have ended in draws, including stalemates against Milan and Inter.

Andrea Pirlo was sacked by Juventus after a difficult 2020-21 but picked up the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia in his first season as a coach.

But the performances in the Champions League and the fourth place in Serie A was not enough for the former midfielder to keep his job at the Allianz Stadium.

Allegri under pressure after Juventus defeat

Allegri was brought in to replace the World Cup winner, without succeeding to improve the results immediately.

In fact, Allegri has picked up five points less than Pirlo after 10 league games and sit 11 points behind Maurizio Sarri’s return after as many games in 2019-20, when Juventus last won the Scudetto.

Juventus sit seventh in the League and are 13 points behind leaders Milan ahead of Week 11 and no teams have ever come back to win the Scudetto from such a significant gap after 10 games.

Pirlo’s men were third with five points more and six behind the top spot in 2020-21, while Sarri’s men were first after 10 rounds of fixtures in 2019-20.
