Milan are being linked with numerous players, but if Ruben Loftus-Cheek arrives from Chelsea and Daichi Kamada is signed as a free agent, they are blocked from signing any other non-EU figures.

The Rossoneri are glancing all over the European leagues for their potential reinforcements after Sandro Tonali agreed a transfer to Newcastle United for €80m including bonuses.

However, Sportitalia and Sky Sport Italia point out there is one very big problem they’ll have to contend with, and that is the limit on buying just two non-EU players per transfer window.

Following Brexit, English players are no longer included in the EU group, so Loftus-Cheek would take up one of those slots.

Another is booked by Japan international Kamada, who has agreed terms on a free transfer after his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt expired.

So if both those players sign, then Milan cannot buy any more non-EU players.

That effectively rules out Samuel Chukwueze of Villarreal and Fenerbahce talent Arda Guler.

There are some options, for example if Kamada manages to get a German passport, which is perhaps also behind the delays in finalising this move.

Chelsea striker Christian Pulisic would be fine, because the United States international has Croatian citizenship too.

  1. Good thing we have such an abundance of Italian players that we don’t really need reinforcements, but also, how does this impact the bottom line? If it ain’t about money, it ain’t a Milan problem…
