Italian media praise Tammy Abraham after his brace against Lazio. La Gazzetta dello Sport described the Roma star as the ‘King of the party’ highlighting that ‘his mentality is one of his secrets.’

The former Chelsea striker hit the headlines in Italy this morning thanks to a brace scored against Lazio in the Rome derby yesterday. The 24-year-old has now scored 23 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions, more than club legends Gabriel Omar Batistuta and Vincenzo Montella managed in their first season at the club.

Abraham was understandably named MOTM by every Italian sports paper. La Gazzetta dello Sport called him the ‘King of the party’ and noticed a little detail during the match.

‘He celebrated more for a ball recovery in midfield than his two goals,’ wrote the pink paper.

‘The mentality is one of his secrets. He misfired the potential hat-trick after an exquisite first touch.’

The England international was rated 8/10 by all three Italian sports papers. He was called ‘thunderbolt’ by Rome-based paper Il Corriere dello Sport, highlighting that Abraham could have made his day even more memorable by scoring a hat-trick. For this time, his two goals are more than enough.

  1. Brandon, did you see the game? He was immaculate in attack, midfield and defence. Add to that a rare mix of grinta and self-control and you begin to understand the praise. I am not saying he is always like that, but yesterday was a masterpiece.

  2. Didn’t watch it. Just the hi-lites. No sour grapes, just don’t see what the big fuss is over 2 goals from 0.5M. Though I admit there was an element of acrobasy involved in the 2nd one to meet the ball.

  3. To score 2 goals from 0.5M You must be in the right place on the right time. Only top strikers can do that.

  4. Am I the only one who think Pellegrini was MotM? Abraham was excellent but first goal a statue would’ve done the job on Pellegrini’s corner. It basically ricocheted off of him. His second goal was great positional awareness from him, but that Pellegrini free-kick … 🤌

  5. In my opinion Pellegrini was MotM. Abraham was excellent but first goal a statue would’ve done the job on Pellegrini’s corner. It basically ricocheted off of him. His second goal was great positional awareness from him, but that Pellegrini free-kick … 🤌

  6. Abraham is fantastic. I wish he played for us, as if we had a striker like him we’d in the lead by 10+ points.

@Brandon, ever hear of a player by the name of Filippo Inzaghi? He scored many goals like this. Like Nyewesata said, being at the right place and right time is also a skill of a top striker…
