The Derby d’Italia is one of Italy’s most bitter rivalries. It’s a game seeped in historic controversy, both on and off the pitch.

However, over the years there has been multiple examples of players taking to the field on both sides of the rivalry, and occasionally going directly from Juve to Inter and vice versa.

Marco Tardelli played for Juventus a decade, from 1975 to 1985, winning every trophy imaginable during his time with The Old Lady.

Marco Tardelli played for Juventus a decade, from 1975 to 1985, winning every trophy imaginable during his time with The Old Lady.

Tardelli then left the Bianconeri in the summer of 1985 to join Inter, where he played for two seasons, making 43 league appearances.

Fabio Cannavaro is another who moved directly from one side to another. In the summer of 2004 the legendary defender ended an unhappy two-year stint in Milan by signing for Juve in a straight swap with backup goalkeeper Fabian Carini.

Cannavaro won two Scudetti with The Old Lady, although these were later revoked in the aftermath of the Calciopoli scandal.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira both left the Bianconeri directly to Inter in that controversial summer of 2006. Both players won a string of silverware, but both left before the Nerazzurri won the treble in 2009-10.

Angelo Peruzzi had played for Juventus for nine years, before swapping Turin for Milan in the summer of 1999 as he followed coach Marcello Lippi to Inter. Peruzzi only lasted a season at Inter before joining Lazio.

Andrea Pirlo also donned both jerseys, via a 10-year spell at Milan. Pirlo struggled for room at Inter from 1998 to 2001, before joining Milan. Following a successful decade-long stay with the Rossoneri, he joined Juve as a free agent and stayed for four years, winning four consecutive Scudetti.

Roberto Baggio is another who played for both via the Rossoneri route. Baggio played for Juve from 1990 to 1995, winning the Ballon d’Or in 1993 and helping to bring home the club’s first league title in nine years in 1995. However he was sold to Milan that summer, and later pitched up at Inter ahead of the 1998-99 season.

Christian Vieri is perhaps best remembered for his six-year spell at the Nerazzurri, in which he blossomed into one of the finest strikers in the world. However Vieri's breakthrough season came with the Bianconeri in 1996-97, in which he scored 14 goals in all competitions.

Edgar Davids also played for both sides, but is mostly associated with his six-year stay at Juventus. Davids played for Inter for one season, in 2004-05, but was past the peak of his powers, and joined Tottenham at the end of that season.

Leonardo Bonucci is another who played for both sides. Bonucci made is Serie A debut with Inter in the 2006-07 season, but failed to break through ahead of the likes of Marco Materazzi and Walter Samuel. He was loaned out to several clubs before joining Juventus from Bari in the summer of 2010.
