According to reports in Italy, Spezia want to sack their coach Thiago Motta, but won’t be able to do so until 2022 otherwise, they’ll have to pay €400,000.

The Aquilotti have been struggling this season, winning just three of their 18 Serie A games.

They are currently just two points above the relegation zone, but with a game in hand.

Spezia visit Napoli at the Stadio Maradona today and according to Calciomercato.com, it will be Thiago Motta’s last game in charge of the team.

The club’s directors have decided to sack their coach but can’t formally dismiss the former Inter and PSG midfielder before the new year.

That’s because Motta has a clause in his contract that forces the club to pay him €400,000 if he is sacked before January 2022.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Aquilotti have already decided their coach’s future and will hold talks with other coaches from tomorrow, starting with former Torino and Milan tactician Marco Gianpaolo.

  1. By no stretch of the imagination am I a Motta fan, but Giampaolo…!?!?! Giampaolo is never the answer EVER, if they really want to go down this path then they may as well stick with Motta!!!
