Massimiliano Allegri believes Carlos Tevez’s recall to the Argentina squad is richly deserved, as he also celebrates Paul Pogba’s Ballon d’Or nomination.

Tevez was yesterday recalled to the Argentina squad by Coach Gerardo Martino after more than three years absent, and his current club Coach is delighted for him.

“I think this was a very important goal for Carlos, and he’s achieved it,” Allegri has told reporters in his pre-Genoa conference today.

“I am very happy for him because in addition to being a great player he’s also a very generous guy,  an ambitious guy, and a guy who cares about his national team, and that’s how it should be.

“I’m very pleased he’s been called-up to the national team, because he deserves it.”

The FIFA Ballon d’Or shortlist was announced this morning, with Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba among the names on the shortlist, although not a single Italian player was nominated.

Allegri however, is not surprised by this.

“The Ballon d’Or is an award that’s given out based on what you do over the course of a season.

“The Italian sides did little or nothing in Europe, and the national team unfortunately didn’t do very well at the World Cup, so it’s normal [for no Italian players to be nominated].

“As for Pogba, I think it’s good for him. The extension of his contract and the adjustments that were made by Juventus shows he’s a player who is held in very high regard.

“He has everything needed to be a top player, so now it’s up to him to do so, and become one of the best three best midfielders in the world.”
