Carlos Tevez has joked that his wife ‘wanted to kill me’ when the time came for him to leave Juventus back in 2015, explaining why his time in Turin was so enjoyable in a recent interview for the launch of EAFC24.

The 39-year-old has recently taken over at Argentine Primera Division side Independiente for what will be his second experience as a coach, having briefly taken charge of Rosario Central in 2022.

However, despite a long career, which took him all over the globe, Tevez looks back on his time at Juve with particular fondness. Being handed an iconic squad number was also a special moment.

“Arriving at Juventus was like a breath of fresh air,” the former Bianconeri striker said in his recent interview.

“From the beginning it was incredible. Arriving at a big club and wearing Del Piero’s shirt is something really special. It was a great time for me and when I decided to go back to Argentina, Vanessa, my wife, wanted to kill me. “

“Everything in Italy was very easy. The Italians are like us Argentines, a part of my heart will stay there forever,” he said.

Tevez was prolific during his two seasons in Italy. Having signed from Manchester City in 2013, he went on to rack up 39 Serie A goals from 66 appearances, adding eight further strikes in the Champions League to his tally.

Tevez went on to say that he hopes the Juventus supporters will remember him for the passion and commitment he showed during his time at the Allianz Stadium.

“In every game, every time I wore the Juventus shirt, I always left a part of my heart out on the pitch. I think this is what the fans always perceived from me until I left. I played the last match in the Champions League and the next day I went to Argentina.”
