Icardi has six goals and an assist in his first six games for the Nerazzurri this season, but he has been capped just once by his country, playing less than 10 minutes in a 3-2 loss to Uruguay.

“Icardi deserves the call to the national team,” Tevez told Fox Sports Radio.

“Maurito is doing very well with Inter, scoring a lot of goals. The final decision is down to [Edgardo] Bauza, but I’d say Icardi deserves the call.”

Tevez left Juventus in the summer of 2015 to return to his boyhood club, Boca Juniors, but the forward is considering hanging up his boots.

“I’m thinking about it, it’s a distinct possibility that I’ll decide to quit in November.

“The pressure on the game is too strong here, it’s not like in Europe when after the 90 minutes is over you can have a normal life.”
