Attilio Tesser explains why he is back on the Novara bench just a month after being sacked. “I believe Novara can achieve safety.”

This Coach took them to promotions from Serie C to their first top flight campaign in 55 years, but was replaced by Emiliano Mondonico on January 30.

“It is a pleasure to return,” he told RadioCalciomercato after today’s shock turnaround.

“Now we just have to get to work and recharge our batteries for an important end to the season. I do feel at home in this club, as I had two and a half very intense years and have an excellent rapport with both club and city.”

Mondonico was not the only person sacked by Novara today, as the club also axed director of sport Mauro Pederzoli.

“I don’t know anything about what happened there, as I’ve been out of the club for a month.”

Novara are in dire straits and already 12 points adrift of the safety zone, but Tesser has faith.

“I believe Novara can achieve safety, otherwise it would be pointless for me to return here. I know it’s difficult, but it is our duty to keep believing and taking it one game at a time.”

It has been a strange time for Tesser, who while unemployed was given the Panchina d’Argento, the award for Serie B Coach of the Year.

“Obviously in moments of difficulty it is pleasing to receive compliments from your peers. For us Coaches the moment of dismissal is not easy and this made me look to the future with greater confidence.”

He also spoke to TMW and revealed how the call back to the bench was a complete surprise.

“I really didn’t expect this, as I was only in Novara to complete my house move. The mood wasn’t good when I left a month ago and I expect the team will be doubly unhappy now, but we’ve got to believe and hope other results go our way too.”
