Napoli have lost four of their seven home Serie A games this season, but only Inter have earned more away points than the Partenopei in 2023-24.

The defending Serie A champions are 11 points below table leaders Inter following a 3-0 loss against the Nerazzurri at the Stadio Maradona on Sunday.

It was Napoli’s fourth home defeat in seven Serie A games this season. The Partenopei have only collected seven points at the Stadio Maradona, winning twice and drawing once. Only Salernitana (six), Hellas Verona and Udinese (five each) and Empoli (four) have collected fewer points in home games this term.

If Napoli’s hopes to retain the Serie A title seem gone already, it’s mainly due to their poor record at the Stadio Maradona.

Napoli, in fact, have one of the best away records in the league, having collected 17 points in seven matches far from Naples. Walter Mazzarri’s side are still unbeaten away from the Stadio Maradona with five points and two draws. The Italian tactician won his first game since replacing Rudi Garcia in Bergamo against Atalanta on November 25.

He lost the following two, away at Real Madrid in the Champions League and at home against Inter.

Overall, the defending Serie A champions have scored ten goals at home and 16 away, conceding 12 times at the Stadio Maradona and only five times away from home.

Napoli’s worrying trend at the Stadio Maradona is also mirrored by their Champions League results.

The Partenopei lost to Real Madrid 3-2 in October and picked up a 1-1 draw against Leonardo Bonucci’s Union Berlin last month, both with Garcia in charge. At the same time, they beat Braga and Union away.
