According to La Gazzetta Dello sport, Roma have fined their defender Rick Karsdorp who didn’t join the team for the tournée in Japan.

José Mourinho blamed the Dutch defender following Roma’s 1-1 draw against Sassuolo in November, saying that a player had ‘betrayed’ the team with his attitude.

He didn’t mention Karsdorp directly, but the player’s name quickly circulated on Italian media and the ex-Feyenoord defender was no longer involved by the Special One.

Karsdorp returned to Holland and didn’t take part in the friendly tournée in Japan earlier this month, providing a medical certificate claiming he could not participate due to psychological issues.

According to Gazzetta, the defender has been fined by the club for not participating in the tournament, especially because he didn’t remain in Rotterdam but continued his winter holidays elsewhere.

The Giallorossi want to part ways with Karsdorp in the winter transfer window but are looking for a permanent sale which may be hard to materialise. According to Gazzetta, Real Madrid’s Alvaro Ordiozola is one of their targets to replace Karsdorp in January.
