According to multiple reports, today’s meeting between Milan patron Gerry Cardinale and director Paolo Maldini did not go well, as they have fundamentally different visions of how to progress.

The tension has been simmering for a while, with Maldini repeatedly stating in interviews that he felt frustrated by the lack of resources available on the transfer market and urging the club owners to invest more in taking the next step up the ladder.

Cardinale was in Italy for the end of the season and met with Maldini today, but Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and more all report this encounter only further inflamed the situation.

Maldini was asking for more autonomy and funds to strengthen the squad, whereas RedBird chief Cardinale and CEO Giorgio Furlani are eager to keep costs down and build on the current business model.

They also point out that when Maldini was given a budget to spend, it was largely wasted on Charles De Ketelaere, who failed to score a single goal.

Milan reached the Champions League semi-final this season, but were only able to scrape fourth place in Serie A thanks to the 10-point penalty handed down to Juventus.

  1. Another Yank fraudster. That’s why he has been mainly absent. Couldn’t even go on the pitch yesterday for Ibra’s ceremony. He hasn’t been able to raise investment, and instead wants to bandwagon off work done by his predecessors.
