La Liga President Javier Tebas has claimed the Italian clubs who were against the resumption ‘had an interest in not recovering’ and used health as a shield.

The Spanish League restarts without a Plan B and Tebas has revealed he was surprised by some of the clubs in Serie A who publicly fought against the resumption of football and claimed they were doing it for their own good.

“I was very worried when a group of clubs publicly exposed themselves against the resumption in Italy,” he said in a press conference, according to Corriere dello Sport. “For me, they had an interest in not recovering and they used the health situation to say we shouldn’t play.

“Fortunately, Serie A resumed, and I hope it will succeed and reach the end.”

The La Liga chief doesn’t think the virus will force people into a new lockdown and is not worried about the lack of a Plan B, persistently avoiding the topic before the resumption.

“I don’t think there will be a new spike in the virus that will force another lockdown,” he said. “As soon as we know that we can’t play anymore, we will make a plan. It’s in the interest of sport.

“Otherwise, some may reason based on the result they have now. We didn’t waste a minute thinking about what would happen La Liga couldn’t finish the season, for cup qualifications, relegations and promotions.

“Some clubs have tried to talk about it, but now is not the time.”
