FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio defends barriers at Stadio Olimpico – “if a fan wants to go to the stadium, they go”.

Sunday’s Derby della Capitale will be boycotted by Roma’s Curva Sud Ultras, in protest at segregation introduced for last season.

“If a fan wants to go to the stadium, they go,” Tavecchio shrugged when asked about the potentially embarrassing spectacle of a half-empty stadium.

“You don’t think about a barrier that’s missing or growing. The important thing is that we’re reducing the violence, which was becoming intolerable.

“We’ve recorded a significant reduction in injuries relating to games, and I hope this trend will be maintained.

“I think that Lazio-Roma will be a great derby, not least because of the position in the League of the two teams.”
