FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio insists Antonio Conte will remain as Italy CT – ‘an indictment is not a conviction’.

It was reported this morning that the Azzurri Coach had been indicted for alleged sporting fraud, relating to his time at Siena.

“I spoke with him this morning, and there’s nothing new,” Tavecchio told assembled media at a Press conference to discuss the Goal Trains scandal.

“He will stay, and respect his contract. We have certain guarantees for people in this country, and they apply for Conte too.

“An indictment is not a conviction.”

Turning to the Catania match-fixing case, Tavecchio was strident, calling on biblical imagery as he discussed cleaning up the game.

“We’ve already started, but we have to drive the money changers from the temple. This is the most important thing in the mind of the FIGC.

“We express our confidence and solidarity with the judiciary.

“I’ll try to do everything that I can to speed up court proceedings, in respect of the start of next season.”
