Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu said the penalty save against Inter striker Lautaro Martinez was ‘the most beautiful’ in his career and stressed he’s not ‘thinking about the renewal’ with the Diavolo.

The 35-year-old Romanian became one of the protagonists at Milan when Mike Maignan suffered a wrist injury and has done the task well since replacing the France international.

Tatarusanu saved Lautaro Martinez’s penalty in the Derby della Madonnina and revealed it was ‘the most beautiful’ so far in his career.

Tatarusanu: ‘I studied Lautaro Martinez penalties’

“I have saved many penalties in my career,” Tatarusanu told Il Corriere dello Sport. “But that was the most beautiful.

“I didn’t know it was 40 years since a Milan goalkeeper had saved a penalty in the derby against Inter, it adds something more.”

Tatarusanu has played twice in the Champions League and five times in the league this term, keeping one clean sheet in the process.

But he’s determined to show off and give Stefano Pioli a reason to extend his contract at Milanello, even if he stressed that ‘there’s no rush’.

“I think about feeling good and keeping up the performances,” he said. “I have one and a half years left on my contract and I’m not thinking about the renewal.

“I would like to continue here, because I’m very happy, but there’s no rush.”

Milan are tied on points with Napoli at the top of Serie A, but Tatarusanu believes other teams will join them in the Scudetto battle.

“We take every match that comes, and we hope to always give our best,” he said. “Napoli are in the lead with us, but there are other teams that can fight for the Scudetto, including Inter.”
