Mauro Tassotti told Milan to “forget” last week’s Serie A defeat to Sassuolo as they face off in the Coppa Italia tonight.
The Round of 16 tie kicks off at 20.00 GMT and is just a week on from a shock 2-1 Sassuolo victory at San Siro.
“This is a one-off game and the competition is important for us, as it is for them,” assistant manager Tassotti told Milan Channel.
“Sassuolo are a dangerous side with some quality forwards, but we must forget last week’s defeat. It is an important game and not an issue of revenge.
“We want to go forward in this tournament because there’s the possibility of playing in the Europa League if we reach the Final.”
The winners of this game will go on to face Lazio or Torino in the quarter-final.
