Lazio director Igli Tare confirms he ‘had contact with Milan last year’ and considered taking the job, but his commitment to the Biancocelesti won out.

There were multiple reports that Tare had been offered the role of director of sport last summer, effectively replacing Leonardo when the Brazilian moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

“I had contact with Milan last year, as everyone already knows,” Tare told Sky Sport Italia.

“I also never disguised that I was a Milan fan as a child, enamoured with the team of Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, Franck Rijkaard and coach Arrigo Sacchi.

“However, when the moment comes to make a choice, Lazio is Lazio and has a fundamental place in my heart. I can say that I feel Lazio inside, because my bond with this club goes behind the professional realm.

“It is like a creature we have nurtured together over the years, and when you look at the fruits of that labour, the bond becomes even stronger.”

Before he became their director of sport, Tare had worn the Lazio jersey as a forward from 2005 to his retirement in 2008.
