“We did not underestimate Cluj. Luis Alberto and Ciro Immobile had fitness issues, so we preferred to safeguard them and that is why they didn’t make the journey to Romania,” the director of sport told Sky Sport Italia.
“In order to play in three competitions, you need a big squad and we have that. The new players need time to settle in, though. We are in the opening months of the season and everyone deserves consideration, so I applaud Inzaghi for giving everyone space.
“There are many Rennes players I like. They are a young squad, but have their own identity, even if they often change tactical system. This versatility, along with their enthusiasm, can be dangerous for us.
“We are up against a competitive side in this group, very physical and with the kind of characteristics that can hurt any opponent.
“A victory tonight would be very important to shape this group.”
