Igli Tare has explained how a disappointing deadline day transpired for Lazio as they missed out on Keisuke Honda and Nilmar.
The capital club, whose Coach Edy Reja had earlier confirmed were in the market for a striker and a midfielder, were thought to be closing in on Japanese international Honda today.
However, after that deal stalled, believed to be over a disagreement about payment structure, Lazio reportedly went for Villarreal’s Nilmar.

The capital club, whose Coach Edy Reja had earlier confirmed were in the market for a striker and a midfielder, were thought to be closing in on Japanese international Honda today.
However, after that deal stalled, believed to be over a disagreement about payment structure, Lazio reportedly went for Villarreal’s Nilmar.
In light of that more also breaking down, the club only succeeded in bringing in a midfielder, in the form of Cesena’s Antonio Candreva.
“As I have said before, in January these are difficult market conditions and in these negotiations everyone takes excessive advantage,” Tare irritatingly reflected to Lalaziosiamonoi.it
“CSKA did not accept our proposal, which was improved two or three times. We have taken note of their decision. The distance was between supply and demand, not the mode of payment.
“Nilmar was a little sceptical because in the final two hours we had everything to still do, and eventually we took another decision.”
This was to sign Candreva from Cesena, in exchange for Simone Del Nero.
“We took Candreva, a player with features that we are missing in our midfield. His football history shows he has a good track record, since he has played for Juventus, the Italian national team and for Udinese.
“He is a young player who can contribute, we have given him the chance of a six-month loan and we believe his future is at Lazio.”
The club offloaded Giuseppe Sculli and Djibril Cisse this January, but Tare discredited the idea that the latter’s sale was only in anticipation of Honda’s arrival.
“There is nothing in this. The offers made for Honda and Nilmar were well above the amount received for Cisse.
“I am disappointed by Cisse. We also talked at the start of the season and discussed the difficulties of Italian football. One of the reasons he wanted to go was the fact that he could find space elsewhere that he could not find in Italy.
“He has proven to be a great player, however, because even though he didn’t score, he provided eight assists. It was a decision supported by all parties, but it was his request to leave.”
