Lazio director Igli Tare said the referee was “truly difficult to defend” after two red cards in their 2-1 defeat to Inter.

“It is very difficult to keep calm after a situation like this,” Tare told Sky Sport Italia.

“Reaching such an important match for our ambitions, a whole year of work and it is decided by a group of officials who are truly difficult to defend.

“We studied the first goal and it should’ve been disallowed for Gary Medel’s offside position. I also have major doubts over the penalty and Federico Marchetti’s red card.

“These are crucial decisions, especially when already down to 10 men. There are several different angles that suggest Mauro Icardi ran into Marchetti and then threw himself down.

“We’ve been in football for many years, we know if there was even a touch of the glove, they give a penalty.

“What’s more, Antonio Candreva was flagged offside when clear on goal and that was scandalous. He was perfectly in play on Felipe Anderson’s pass.

“We’ve been saying for weeks that these last four rounds are going to be decisive and then they send a young referee who is inexperienced. Everything is put in doubt, a year of work in the balance.

“This result and the way it came about can also affect the team psychologically going forward for the rest of the season. It's a whole year of work up in flames because of decisions.

“This is a very important year for Lazio and we just want respect, as the club deserves it.”
