Italy legend Marco Tardelli slams the President of the FIGC – “if Carlo Tavecchio had any dignity he would resign”.

The Azzurri yesterday failed to reach the World Cup for the first time since 1958, becoming the only former winner not to be present in Russia next summer.

CT Giampiero Ventura will leave, but there is also pressure on the head of the Federation, already a controversial figure for offensive comments about gay people, the Jewish community and black players.

“If Tavecchio had the same dignity as [predecessor Giancarlo] Abete he would resign,” Tardelli fumed, speaking to Rai 3.

“I know the reality overseas because I’ve been there for several years and I can tell you that in England Tavecchio wouldn’t be able to step foot in a stadium. Here he’s the President of the FIGC.

“These are the things we have to ask: why is he there, and who lets him say certain things?”
