Juventus and Italy legend Marco Tardelli believes the Bianconeri’s injury crisis was a blessing in disguise but admits CEO Maurizio Arrivabene made a mistake when Massimiliano Allegri was under pressure.

Juventus visit Hellas Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi today and could win their fifth consecutive Serie A game for the first time since 2020.

They’ve had a slow start to the season, facing Champions League elimination and they would still be 10 points below leaders Napoli even with a victory in Verona today.

Nevertheless, Tardelli believes the Bianconeri can still compete for the title, even if the Partenopei currently look out of reach for anyone in Serie A.

“As of today, Napoli have no rivals, it’s hard to reach them,” the ex-midfielder told Gazzetta.

“If they have a little problem, Lady Luck helps them, but those who are involved always do well, these signals are encouraging in the title race.

“Juventus’ injury crisis has forced Allegri to gamble on young players, but the coach was also smart to give them a chance and insist.

“Nicolò Fagioli and Fabio Miretti can play together and Samuel Iling-Junior seems to have quality,” the 1982 Italy World Cup winner continued.

“Juventus and Inter can finish between the second and fourth spot, even if they are having some difficulties. Milan are losing ground, Atalanta are not at the same level as the top teams.”

Tardelli believes Juventus did the right thing in keeping Allegri but noted a mistake from club CEO Arrivabene.

“The end of the season is the right time to make assessments, it would be crazy to sack Allegri now,” insisted Tardelli.

“The Champions League elimination was a big blow. He [Allegri] was wrong to talk about PSG and so was Arrivabene when he asked the fan if he’d pay for his replacement. Everyone made mistakes.”

Allegri said in September that Benfica were their direct opponent in the Champions League Group H, before their first match in the tournament against PSG, while Arrivabene jokingly asked a fan whether he’d pay to get a replacement for the Italian coach.

It happened hours before their 2-1 loss against Benfica at the Allianz Stadium in September.

  1. Tardelli is the same man who said Lippi had no idea what he was doing when he took over the national team in 2006. Some people need to know when their time is up…Go and play golf or something Marco!!!

  2. CALMAAA!!!

Too much hype surrounding PhD Max. People seem to have forgotten that he has set new world records by taking in the real Notts County into the second division of Europe. She will soon find her secret sauce again and the 0.01 Mbps upload will restart.
