Italy legend Marco Tardelli explains why Inter are the best team in Serie A and can surprise ‘arrogant’ Liverpool in the Champions League. ‘Their fouls against Tottenham would lead to 10-match bans in Italy.’

The Nerazzurri have been crowned Winter Champions in Serie A, leading the table at the midway stage of the season, thanks to their four-point advantage over Milan and Napoli.

They are also in the Champions League Round of 16, where they will face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in February.

“I hear people say that Liverpool are unplayable, but no team is, especially against this Inter side,” 1982 World Cup winner Tardelli told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The important thing is that Inter play with this same hunger and desire to play football. They need a different level of intensity with Liverpool and also a better rapport with the referee.

“The fouls that Liverpool players did against Tottenham yesterday, they’d have received a 10-match ban in Italy…

“Besides, Liverpool are almost arrogant in the way they play, all too aware of how strong they are and the protection that they enjoy.”

Tardelli is impressed with Inter and their performances in Serie A, especially after rotating the squad under Simone Inzaghi.

“Inter are comfortably the strongest team in Italy and they have shaken off the stress they had before. It wasn’t easy to reboot without Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi, Christian Eriksen and Antonio Conte, but Inzaghi is immediately credible.”

  1. Ow behave Italian teams have no chance against the English sides due to money in the primer league is so advanced hence all English finial in the champions league is in the cards

Inter will be left looking like farmers against Liverpool

  2. He is talking through his proverbial. I doubt Inter will get past Liverpool if both clubs are at full strength. Italian football is second rate these days.

  3. @Luca right there “behave” smells arrogance, money doesn’t win football matches all the time, you wouldn’t understand.

  4. Italian guy supporting a team managed by another italian and calling Liverpool arrogant who won fairpay award 5 years in a row.

  5. @Luca… the sport we are talking here is football, and anything can happen in football, this is the beauty about it. …”It’s coming home” he?

  6. For the two legs anything can happen but after watching recent Liverpool matches their defence is really not that good. Most Liverpool fans think Inter is the same as Milan but they’ll be in for a surprise when they face a motivated Inter who think the performance in CL doesn’t reflect the results.

  7. Ah yes… The English clubs that only win a title when they face each other in the final and get hammered whenever they face a Spanish club or Bayern.

  8. People here are delusional if they think Inter will get past Liverpool. Inter’s performances in the UCL have not been great, throw in Inzaghi’s inexperience in this comp. and Liverpool’s pace and intensity for 90 minutes and it’s curtains for Inter. Liverpool’s B side comfortably beat Milan and Milan at full strength is more than a match for Inter.
