Hellas Verona midfielder Adrien Tameze was ‘happy’ to have scored in an ‘important’ 2-1 win over Empoli on Monday.

Tameze showed up after 90 minutes to give the home side all the spoils on an intense evening against newly promoted Empoli.

Verona thus continued to keep up with the teams above them in the table and are now two points behind Fiorentina, Lazio and Juventus in the top half.

Hellas Verona 2-1 Empoli: Tameze grabs the winner

“It was a very important win because we faced a great team,” Tameze told DAZN after the match. “It was very important to continue like this.

“It’s right that the goal came at an important moment and I’m happy. It’s a difficult championship but we work to always push and stay ahead. Then we’ll see where we get.”

Igor Tudor replaces Eusebio Di Francesco after a difficult start to the campaign and the former Udinese coach has managed to turn things around at the Bentegodi.

But Tameze was certain when asked if the goal is still to reach safety: “Yes.”
