Milan defender Taye Taiwo could join former Inter full-back Davide Santon at Newcastle United this January, according to reports.

The Nigerian left-back only joined the Rossoneri on a  free transfer in the summer from Marseille, but recently spoke of the frustration at failing to hold down a regular place at San Siro.

Having managed just two League starts under Massimiliano Allegri, the 26-year-old hinted via French publication L’Equipe this week that he may consider a January switch. His agent also suggested the same possibility exists, even if the player’s primary intention is to remain with the Italian champions.

Reports in England are linking Taiwo with Newcastle United. In the market for a left-back to replace Jose Enrique, the Tyneside club are understood to have turned their attentions to a loan deal for the Milan man after being warned off first-choice PSV Eindhoven’s Erik Pieters.

Further reports are linking Arsenal with a move for the international who has been capped 48 times by his country, after they recently lost regular full-back Andre Santos to a long-term injury.
