Algeria international Saphir Taider is returning to Bologna after pulling out of the Africa Cup of Nations with a knee injury.
The 24-year-old midfielder had been decisive just four days ago in a 3-1 warm-up friendly win over Mauritania.
He sustained a meniscus injury in training and tests showed he would not be fit for the tournament, which runs from January 14 to February 5.
Taider has already been replaced in the Algeria squad by Ismael Bennacer, an Arsenal youth team player.
