Dusan Tadic has accused Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi of “destroying” Ajax during their 4-4 Champions League draw with Chelsea on Tuesday.
Ajax were 4-1 up when Rocchi sent off Daley Blind and Joel Veltman for two bookable offences.
Chelsea responded by scoring three goals, leaving Tadic in no doubt as to who to blame for his side’s collapse.
“We were the best team on the pitch and we’re disappointed because we should be talking about Ajax and our beautiful game, but we can’t because a guy [Rocchi] stole everything from us," the 30-year-old said after the game.
"I don’t like to look for excuses or talk about other people, but we should be talking about how superior we were to Chelsea and we can’t because someone destroyed everything.
“It can’t be that someone destroys a game in this way. We had everything under control. I simply don’t understand how two red cards can be given in the same phase of play, I really don’t.”
Rocchi is one of Italy’s more experienced referees, having worked in Serie A since 2004, before becoming an elite UEFA official six years later.
However, he has regularly come under fire for controversial calls in matches at home and abroad.
