Former Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Stefano Tacconi is facing the ‘most critical period’ after suffering a brain haemorrhage last month and his situation can ‘evolve rapidly both in a positive and negative way,’ says the director of the neurosurgery department of the Alessandria Hospital.

Tacconiwas admitted to the hospital on April 24. Andrea Barbanera, the director of the neurosurgery department of the Alessandria Hospital, has released the latest update on the health of the 64-year-old.

“As a consequence of what happened to Stefano and, as expected by the normal course of this pathology, the patient is going through the most critical period,” he said in an official statement.

“Our team is pursuing drug treatment to counteract cerebral vasospasm, but his clinical condition is fluctuating.

“It is in fact the most complicated phase that can evolve rapidly both in a positive and negative way, unfortunately. Stefano is continuing to fight: the next few days will be decisive.”
Tacconi played for Juventus from 1983 until 1992 and also wore the shirts of Spoleto, Inter, Pro Patria, Livorno, Avellino and Genoa during his playing career. He played 387 Serie A appearances and racked up seven senior caps for Italy.
