The Bianconeri are currently in 14th-place in Serie A, and were uninspiring in a 0-0 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League last night.

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini accused the Coach of “ruining” Paulo Dybala, but one former Bianconeri start doesn’t believe Allegri is at fault.

“The reality is that the absence of [Carlos] Tevez is weighing heavily on them,” Tacchinardi told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Allegri is trying a lot of partnerships, but they’re not only not in sync with each other, but also the team. The problem in Italy is that we only look at the result and people often speak out of turn.

“In a perfectly-functioning team Dybala would be an important player, if not he struggles too. [Simone] Zaza was one of the best Italian players at Sassuolo last year, and now he’s being criticised.

“I don’t think it’s that he’s forgotten how to play. The same for Alex Sandro, who didn’t seem to be on the pitch yesterday, I don’t think I saw him yesterday.

“In short, don’t blame the players or Allegri. If anything it’s proof of how a top-level player can change your team.

“Look at other examples. When Roma had [Medhi] Benatia at the back, they hardly conceded a goal, now [Coach] Rudi Garcia is being criticised for the defending.

“[Antonio] Nocerino scored 11 goals playing with [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic [at Milan].

“Allegri is trying his best to get all of the best players on the pitch, but no-one is displaying the leadership that Tevez did.

“With him you win the kind of match we saw yesterday.”
