Wojciech Szczesny was forced off the pitch in Juventus’ friendly with Standard Liege after suffering a neck issue.

The 32-year-old Polish shot stopper returned to Turin earlier this month after competing at the World Cup in Qatar, impressing across his three group stage appearances. Szczesny has done well under Massimiliano Allegri this season, keeping seven clean sheets and conceding three goals across nine Serie A games.

As highlighted by Alfredo Pedulla, Szczesny came off at half time of Juventus’ friendly with Standard Liege, complaining of a neck problem. He was replaced by Mattia Perin, who could be forced to fill in for the Pole in the Bianconeri’s first game of 2023 against Cremonese on January 4.

Allegri discussed Szczesny’s condition to Sky Sports Italia after the match, suggesting that it wasn’t a major issue.

“His neck got blocked before the goal, it shouldn’t be a big problem but if he doesn’t make it Perin is ready.”

The 32-year-old Szczesny’s contract expires with Juventus in June 2024. He has made 190 appearances for the club since his arrival in July 2017.
