Wojciech Szczesny says Juventus accepted they should not lose against Atalanta something they hadn’t done against Sassuolo last week.

The Bianconeri earned one point at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday with a 0-0 draw against Atalanta.

“We always play to win, so when we draw, we always drop two points,” Szczesny told DAZN.

“I think it was a fair result anyway, we played better in the first half, they were better in the second half. At some point, we understood we should not have lost the game and we suffered a little in the final ten minutes. It’s an important draw.

“This is the error we made against Sassuolo, including Fede [Gatti] and myself,” continued the ex-Arsenal keeper.

“Sometimes you must accept to give your best to get a point, today we did better, we are sorry we didn’t win, but as I said, it’s an important point against a very strong team.”

The Poland international produced a crucial save in the second half, helping Juventus return home with a point in their pocket. When asked how he managed to save Luis Muriel’s free-kick, Szczesny replied: “I don’t know, but I also don’t know how I let Laurienté’s shoot in the other day. It was an important save, I needed it after the match against Sassuolo.”

How did he react to his errors against the Neroverdi?

“It’s only hard work. When you make mistakes, you just work and try to improve,” the goalkeeper explained.

“I believe there’s a lot to do to improve. We played well against Lazio in the first half, well against Udinese in the first half, but we must manage the ball better. Today we did well in the first half, but they changed the system slightly in the second half, so we must take one more step to be even more competitive.

“It’s just September, now we have the great derby and the international break, but we prepare for one game at a time.”
