Wojciech Szczesny reveals the elements helped him save Antonio Candreva’s Sampdoria penalty and Juventus ‘always find a way to get the points.’

Alvaro Morata stepped in to fill the gap left by the decision to rest Dusan Vlahovic, bagging a brace with a penalty and a header.

Maya Yoshida had accidentally turned Juan Cuadrado’s cross into his own net, but Szczesny had to make the save on Candreva’s penalty.

The goalkeeper has now saved 75 per cent of the penalties he faced in Serie A this season, but confessed to DAZN that the elements helped him in the extremely windy conditions at Marassi.

“To be honest, I was lucky. I expected a central penalty, the ball moved a little bit from the spot, I picked a side and hoped,” said the Poland international.

“It’s nice, because we study penalties and it is always satisfying when we manage to save one.”

Juventus are closing rapidly on the Serie A leading pack and are still in the Scudetto race.

“We did well this evening, controlled the game and they say that winning helps you to keep winning. We always seem to find a way to pick up the three points and we hope to keep going like this.

“There are some goals you can’t do much about, such as ones that take a deflection. Clean sheets are nice, but we can only do so much.”

Their next test is on Wednesday in the Champions League against Villarreal after the 1-1 first leg result.

“The next match will be very difficult, very different to this one against a side that loves to keep possession, so we hope to get through to the next round.”
