The Polish goalkeeper has returned to the Italian capital for a second season on loan and, upon re-signing, asked the Stadio Olimpico fans to have faith in their team.

“My message is to always believe in us,” Szczesny told Roma’s official website. “Last year we showed what we can do and I am sure that this season we will do very well from the start.

“With your support we can do great things.

“I am very happy, after a good season there was the possibility to come back and I am happy the boss wanted me.

“I hope we can do even better than last season and fight for the Scudetto.

“I am at Roma to win the Scudetto, there are no other targets. Last season we had a great second half of the season but when you are at a big club you can only be happy if you fight for the title.”

Shot-stopper Szczesny is also looking forward to linking up with Luciano Spalletti again.

“Spalletti? We had a good relationship last year and I can’t wait to start working with him again.”
