Donnarumma 6.5 – Not sure he could do something to avoid the Switzerland goals. Surely, Mancini could have avoided the first one. Another couple of top saves from Gigio. Best Italy player at EURO 2024.

Di Lorenzo 4 – Once again exposed. Chiesa didn’t help him much, so he struggled in one-v-one situations. He can do much more than this. Spalletti’s trust in him wasn’t repaid.

Mancini 4.5 – Reproached by Gigio after Switzerland’s goal, the Roma defender never looked really confident.

Bastoni 5.5 – Probably not as sharp and resolute as usual. Understandably tired, perhaps, having not missed a minute in the competition.

Darmian 4.5 – He won just two duels from seven. Nothing more to add. (75′ Cambiaso 5.5)

EURO 2024 | Switzerland 2-0 Italy: Awful Azzurri bow out with a whimper

Barella 5 – The shadow of himself. No quality passes and didn’t play smartly. He had received a knock in the early stages, which may have affected him (64′ Retegui 5).

Fagioli 5 – 90% passing accuracy, but no key passes. Same problem as Jorginho.

Cristante 4.5 – The Roma man looked confused and Switzerland could always find space in central midfield (75′ Pellegrini N/A).

Chiesa 5 – He probably had the best chance in the game, but his attempted curler was blocked by a Swiss defender. Played on the left and on the right but didn’t quite find his footing.

Scamacca 4.5 – He will be remembered as the only Italian centre-forward producing a shot on target at EURO 2024. Not in this game, though. A striker constantly outside the box is like a fish out of water.

El Shaarawy 5 – Didn’t even have time to prove his worth. Replaced at half time. (46′ Zaccagni 5.5).

Coach: Spalletti 4—This group could do much more, but too many things didn’t work out. Since the Spain game, Spalletti hasn’t kept the same lineup for more than 45 minutes in a row. Italy not only looked confused but also too far away from their best fitness. It’s still the beginning of the process and Spalletti needs time, but too many things were disappointing for Italy here in Germany.

Switzerland: Sommer 6; Schär 7, Akanji 6.5, Rodriguez 7; Aebischer 7.5, Freuler 8, Xhaka 8, Rieder 7.5 (72′ Stergiou 6.5); Vargas 8 (71′ Zuber 6.5), Embolo 6.5 (77′ Duah N/A), Ndoye (77′ Sierro N/A). Coach: Yakin 7.
